H2O

Hi, yes I would like a glass of your finest...water.

It may be a simple, bland, and non-alcoholic or caffeinated drink, but water is essential to our well-being. Although water makes up two-thirds of the human body, but many forget to drink it during the day, never-mind the recommended 8 oz glasses.

I will full heartedly admit that I am one of those people who acknowledge their thirst, but chose to remain in bed watching "Girls" rather than get up and pour myself a glass of water. Basic in nature this task can lead to aches and pains and perhaps worse. Personally I have experienced headaches during the day or especially at night while I am trying to fall asleep, both of which were attributed to my dehydration.

When I go out to eat I find it a lot easier to drink lots of fluid because many lunch or dinner venues present you with a liter bottle of water for your meal so refills are literally inches away from your fingertips. It's at home in my day to day life that I struggle with putting the necessary amount of fluids into my body.

The current heat-wave hitting the world has inspired me to listen to my body when it is requires hydration and continue on my quest to finally drink those 8 oz glasses in one day (I have gotten to 6 or 7 these past few weeks). Perhaps it is my newfound inspiration and motivation to eat healthier and workout or my realization that water actually does in fact taste GOOD, but I have come to appreciate how drinking more water has improved my overall well-being in several significant ways.

1. Nourished Skin

I have struggled with acne from moderate to cystic, both black and white heads, dry and skin, scarring, and your typical PMS pimples. So without a doubt I have been around the aisles of skincare in CVS and Sephora and back several times, found myself sitting in a dark room receiving a facial from a person I cannot even see, and gone to a variety of dermatologists in search of the answer to my skin predicament. I am not about to say that drinking the recommended amount of water each day will solve all of your skin problems, but I have definitely noticed a decrease in the amount of breakouts I experience and an overall improvement in the glow of my skin. Merci l'eau.

2. A Cleansed Stomach

In addition to acne I have also suffered with stomach aches and discomfort over the past years in my life. Similar to my approach to improving my skin I tried multiple different approaches to improving the state of my stomach, but I ignored the simplest answer: drinking more water. Sure I still experience stomach aches, but drinking water throughout the day, especially before, during, and after meals, has improved how my stomach feels - in particular with bloating.

3. An Accomplished Girl

There is something about finishing a glass of water that makes you suddenly feel like you are a world-class yogi who devotes your life to your well-being. Of course this is false (in my case), but I find a newfound sense of motivation when I finish a glass of water - if I can drink this much water, I can certainly find the same motivation to finish this blog post or write that paper! It may sound silly, but the mind works in odd ways and feeling accomplished is often a hard feeling to come by, so certainly if you can feel this sensation eight times a day from just drinking water then perhaps your mental state would also become as clear as water.

So...I encourage you to find a cup, mug, or water-bottle that you love and fill it with water RIGHT NOW. Nourish your body (and soul to embrace that inner yogi) and just keep drinking.
